Chapter 12: The Ride in the Field
Keep in mind that this is another stage in the interview process
and you are still under evaluation. The sales representative with
whom you spend the day will be reporting to the manager on your
conduct and your reactions in the field atmosphere.
Its very important to take notes throughout the day, identifying
the doctors who were contacted, which ones were seen and not seen
and what transpired during the sales call. You should be comparing
your selling and interpersonal skills with the individual with whom
you are riding.
There are some taboo areas where it may not be in your best interest
to ask certain questions. Many of them pertain to the managers
personality and management style; do not ask these types of questions
regarding the manager.
Any attempts to validate gossip and/or hearsay or to evaluate the
managers style during this time may have potential for disastrous
results.
